The workshop was sponsored by the Sediment Management Work Group and the US Army Corps of Engineers ERDC.  70 practitioners from government, consulting, sediment liability holders, legal, marine constructors, and research academics discussed the state of the industry in the emerging space of contaminated sediments, and it’s application to beneficial use opportunities. Technical, economic, regulatory, policy, and liability subject areas were presented and discussed. A Technical Note Paper will be developed from this workshop.

Battelle Conference 2023

Abstract and Presentation – Eleventh International Conference on Remediation and Management of Contaminated Sediments, Austin, Texas

January 9-12, 2023

Tipping Point supports Jacobs Engineering on treatability, design and sediment management efforts for the Gorge Dam / Akron, Ohio innovative sediment processing campaign. The largest dam on the Cuyahoga River will be removed to support riverine restoration efforts after dredging of up to 877,000 cubic yards of sediment behind the dam. Tipping Point is involved in the sediment processing efforts with their construction partner Jafec USA.

Management of Sediment-Induced Problems

Tipping Point consults with Deltares on THC Dam

July 2022

Tipping Point provided sediment management consulting services to Deltares, NL in support of the The World Bank funded task – Management of sediment-induced problems at Tuyamuyun Hydro Complex (THC) located in the transboundary between the  two countries of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The THC is an important asset for their joint multipurpose water utilization (mainly drinking water, irrigation, and hydropower) and sediment management. In the THC, there are more than 30 major hydraulic structures – dams, spillways, embankments, intakes and canals. Sedimentation has filled the reservoirs and has impacted the main dam/hydroelectric powerplant. The main objective of the assignment was to propose implementable and possible technical solutions to the sediment-induced problems at THC realizing that every project site differs and comes with it their own environmental, social, economic, and engineering challenges.

Tipping Point Endorses Climate Change and Sediment Management Pledge – Announced at COP26 / Glasgow, Scotland

Monday, November 8, 2021 – Tipping Point has joined over 20 international peers and colleagues in signing the “Climate Change and Sediment Management Pledge” that was launched during the UNFCCC Marrakech Partnership ‘Resilience Action’ Event at COP26 this week. This pledge acknowledges the important role that sediment managers have to play in strengthening resilience and adapting to the changing climate. It sets out a clear vision for sediment management that will support the goals of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement. The pledge was organized by the European Sediment Network (SedNet) and the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure’s (PIANC’s) Navigating a Changing Climate Partnership (NavClimate).

The full text of the “Climate Change and Sediment Management Pledge” and launch-day press release are linked below.

More information on the pledge, including an open call for endorsement, can be found on the SedNet website.

TPRG Receives 2018 Blue Peter Leadership Award

Wed, Jun 13, 2018 – Tipping Point congratulates our colleagues and friends who received awards and attended the Blue Peter Award event held by Aqua Survey, Inc.

What is the Blue Peter Award?

“It is a nautical flag, signifying the ship’s crew is outward bound. The crew will ultimately share a common fate, therefore it is of extreme importance to function as a team. The Blue Peter Award is presented to proven leaders in the environmental profession to publicly acknowledge their excellence.”

Tipping Point Receives Permit to Operate in Connecticut

Mon, May 14, 2018 – Tipping Point Resources Group, LLC has received a demonstration permit to operate its Regional Dredged Material Manufacturing Facility (RDMMF) in the State of Connecticut, the company announced on Mon, Mar 26, 2018.

Based at New Haven Terminal in New Haven, Connecticut, the RDMMF will be a center for processing and transport of sediments for upland beneficial use through the application of the Mobile Operating Sediment Engineering System (MOSES), a barge mounted Pneumatic Flow Tube Mixing (PFTM) processing and stabilization process, which has no air or water discharges. This treatment system is a solution for projects that involve dredged material that is unsuitable for aquatic placement with a beneficial use application. The PFTM and Grizzly were assembled at Carver Companies – Port of Coeymans on the Hudson River, New York.

Innovative Sediment Processing and Beneficial Use Platform Permitted in Connecticut

Mon, Mar 26, 2018 – Press Release: Tipping Point Resources Group, LLC is privileged to announce that we are the first permitted Regional Dredged Material Manufacturing Facility (RDMMF) in the State of Connecticut. Based at New Haven Terminal in New Haven, Connecticut, the RDMMF will be a center for the processing and transport of sediments for upland beneficial use through the application of the Mobile Operating Sediment Engineering System (MOSES).

MOSES is a barge mounted Pneumatic Flow Tube Mixing (PFTM) processing and stabilization process which has no air or water discharges. This environmentally acceptable and cost-effective treatment alternative offers solutions for projects that involve dredged materials that are unsuitable for aquatic placement. We anticipate that the RDMMF will be of regional, national and global interest to clients that have reached the ‘tipping point’ in their sediment management challenges.
